DOORS

Doors – more than a barrier. A technical look at modern solutions

Doors, both interior and exterior, are one of the key building elements that impact not only aesthetics but, above all, the functionality and safety of a building. Modern exterior doors now serve multiple functions simultaneously: they provide thermal and acoustic insulation, protect against break-ins, and must align with the architectural style of the building.
In the construction of exterior doors, advanced materials are currently used: steel or aluminum frames with polyurethane foam filling, laminated wood, and increasingly, composites. For interior doors, a growing trend is frameless models with hidden hinges and minimalist handles. Glass doors are also gaining popularity, especially in office spaces and modern homes.

When Is It Worth Replacing a Door?

Replacing a door is justified not only for aesthetic reasons but also for functional ones. It is worth considering in several cases:

Loss of sealing – especially in exterior doors, this manifests as drafts, heat loss, and often moisture around the door frame.

Mechanical damage – warping, distortion, difficulty closing, scratches, abrasions, or corrosion (in the case of steel doors).

Lack of sound insulation – often during renovations or when changing the purpose of a room, better soundproofing is needed.

Increasing security – installing anti-burglary doors, especially at the entrance to a house, apartment, or utility rooms.

Trends and Technologies in Door Joinery

Clear trends are noticeable in the market for exterior and interior doors. Minimalism, matte finishes, wood textures, and earth tones dominate – from warm beiges and anthracite to black. In terms of technology, doors with concealed door closers, integrated thermal thresholds, electronic locks, and fingerprint readers in premium models are becoming increasingly popular.

On Our Part – What Do We Often Forget?

From a technical point of view, when replacing a door, it is crucial not only to choose the right model but also to ensure proper installation. Even the most expensive door may not serve its purpose if it is not installed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations – this especially applies to leveling, fixing the frame, sealing, and hinge adjustment.

It is also important to remember that a door is not just the leaf, but the entire system – handle, lock, seals, threshold, hinges, and often also a ventilation or access control system.
By investing in a high-quality door, we invest in comfort, energy savings, as well as safety and durability.
